interested in him. In 1947, Brooklyn Dodgers president Branch Rickey approached
Jackie about joining the Brooklyn Dodgers. The Major Leagues had not had an
African-American player since 1889, when baseball became segregated. He played second baseman. At the end of Robinson's rookie season with the Brooklyn Dodgers, he had become National League Rookie of the Year with 12 homers, a league-leading 29 steals, and a .297 average. In 1949. He shows that you can do anything you set your mind to, and stand up for what you believe in. I will always respect Jackie Robinson, and everyone who has stood up for what they believe in because they are true heroes.
Jackie Robinson was very brave man. He did what he wanted, and did not care what people thought of him. Jackie Robinson wanted to be a major league baseball player, and that's what he accomplished. He wasn't going to let anyone or anyone get in his way. When Jackie Robinson joined Major League Baseball he was hated by every player and every fan. Jackie Robinson shows that you can do anything you set your mind to. No matter the situation you just have to ignore it and do the right thing. Jackie Robinson knew doing what he believed in could get him hurt. He kept on following his dream, and became the first African American baseball player. Jackie Robinson once said, "I'm not concerned with your liking or disliking me... all I ask is that you respect me as a human being." This quote shows that Jackie Robinson did not care whether or no people liked him, all he wanted was people to respect him. Jackie Robinson also said, "Life is not a spectator sport. If you're going to spend your whole life in the grandstand just watching what goes on, in my opinion you're wasting your life." What he meant by this was that if you are just going to watch and not doing anything about a situation, then you shouldn't be judging others. You should make a name for yourself if you want to do something about it. That is what Jackie Robinson did by breaking the color barrier because he did not care what others thought of him. Jackie Robinson will always be remembered as a hero and one of the best baseball players of all time.
